In the old growth oregon myrtle / bay laurel just outside the kitchen window, bushtits have set up home again. Welcome modest birds who usually travel in relatively large communities – patrolling the trees for insects and spiders – it is spring love season. Time for lovers to pair off and nest. Their nest is like none other – a matted felt of moss and paper wrapped around an elder downward laurel branch with a rounded sun facing entry to the home on the top.

We wonder – they chose the exact same spot two years ago – if it might be a new generation or? Last time around one of the babes fledged while mom and dad were away. Olive defended it from the neighborhood cats and crows until it’s folks returned to help it along. Merry met.
