Living Miracles

One of the many gifts of Winter are the unexpected reunions that happen as we travel to visit friends and family. A constellation of family occurred in our living room that had never happened before . That this combined with a sharing of Medicine stories and song inspired this poem – with images from some of the landscapes and beings and arts which are woven into our living… A feast was prepared and our granddaughter sprinkled plates with affirmations of love hand written on heart cut outs that were the remnants of the making of snowflakes… the fruition of living became a sharing out of our love for the spirits of our lands… for the ways we are learning to encourage our living together… gratitudes…

Earths Medicine
Offered with affirmations
Of loves variations
Centers us in an unexpectedly
Spiralled feast

Living branches open
Revealing new blossoms
Of elder roots

A story of the Mayan Priestess who
Carries the big stone in her purse
Of the Mother
She placed
It in the hands of
And the vortexing flow moving
through the whole of Earth
Clearing wounds of love changed
As music is fed

A story of a brother who has become
A crystal prayer
His legs joining whole mountains
In a mystery of love
He will not refuse
In a prayer for us all he
Will not stop

Grandmother’s hands
Grandaughter’s hands
All the while are working the threads
That these weavings may be worn
That these loves be nourished

Chal.Si.Nam.Men asks us
Before returning
To open a gate of birds
If he can sing a song
Which is welcomed

Mountain Goat – Logan Pass – Glacier, Montana

He finds the hoop of yellow cedar
Covered in the offering
Of Elk Skin which he himself has wetted and stretched
He finds the alder branch
The mountain goat wool
And deer skin covered stick

He introduces the ancient grandmother
Whose last incarnation 400 years ago
On Orcas Island left a song
An ancient grandmother whose spirit
Has been witness to all of the cycles of cycles
And chants her song
Vibrating into a vortex of long memory
A vortex of long vision
A vortex of a heart
That is always listening

Whale Stone - Haro Strait, San Juan Island
Whale Stone – Haro Strait, San Juan Island

And we give up this wealth
passed from heart to heart
With surrender
As the whale’s breathe
Who swim’s as ally
To all true lover’s
Sounds heaven ward
Receiving what has been outside
As our waves of breathe
Land on the shores of
A love
For One Another

Laughing he remembers his father and brother
Visiting the land of the grandfather stone
At Swinomish
Wondering at his voice
“Where did that come from?”

A mystery
Still Singing…
